River Roots by Jennifer Phillips
Roots exposed
ready to walk
tangled in the rush
to escape the river flood.
Blood
on the boulder
still clasped by the tree
still clinging to pebbles
and
sand.
Broken fingers cry out
for the land
while trees of the land
thirst for the stream
as the heat
sucks away
at the age of
the dream
... the anchor holds
and molds.
